Established in 1905, RAC has proudly served Western Australians for over 120 years. With over 1.3 million members, RAC has evolved into one of the most trusted and recognised organisations in the state. As a purpose-led member organisation, it reinvests its profits to serve its members and the wider WA community.
RAC Travel Joondalup
RAC’s goal was to introduce more warmth and a home-like atmosphere to their new store, while retaining the recognisable corporate yellow for brand connection.
At the shopfront, half-round timber panels and a yellow frame were introduced. The timber tone connects the store’s design language with RAC’s headquarters while complementing the corporate yellow, resulting in a welcoming and recognisable façade.
Flooring
Two materials and three colours were used to define areas and guide movement. Timber-look tiles at the entry create a warm approach and subtly direct customers towards the centrally positioned queue machine. A brass trim between tiles and carpet offers a smooth, elegant transition. The carpet uses two colours: navy for the consultation areas on the left and right sides, and beige in the centre for the waiting and entry areas.
Feature Joinery & Walls
The queue machine feature joinery was custom-designed for this store, reflecting the overall concept through timber detailing, RAC logo-inspired shapes, and brass accents that connect with a yellow tone similar to the corporate colour, but not overpowering. Behind the desks, feature wall panels combine previously used RAC acoustic panels with real moss inserts and repeated shopfront timber elements to visually connect the spaces. The moss brings natural freshness and a sense of comfort.
Curved Elements & Ceiling Design
Curved lines are present throughout — in desk shapes, custom desk dividers, and wall forms — enhancing the approachable, home-like feel. The ceiling rises above the waiting and entry areas, then lowers over customer service and travel zones to create a more intimate environment. Curved ceiling details reinforce the overall design theme. At the entry, contrasting black acoustic panels add visual interest and volume.
Greenery
In the waiting area, a planter box with real plants is integrated between seats, further reinforcing the natural, welcoming character of the space.
Overall, the design blends RAC’s strong brand identity with natural materials, gentle curves, and warm finishes to create a store that feels both professional and inviting.
